Rejoice westerners! TOBY’s The Dessert Asylum has shifted to the Tradehub21. Judging from their name, you just know that their dessert would blow your mind away, serving desserts such as cakes, mudpies, waffles and many more. What’s more they are not just restricted to great desserts but also a restaurant serving western food such as pizza, BBQ Ribs, Shepherds pie, burgers etc. We were very impressed by the large variety of delicious food fares and interesting desserts TOBY’s The Dessert Asylum had to offer. It is fairy easy to spot this restaurant once you have reached Tradehub21, it is spacious with plenty of table and seats for both indoors and alfresco dining. We love how cozy this place is, with friendly staffs who greeted and assisted us with our orders.
First dish that was recommended to us, the Spicy Hot Wings. We learnt that the chicken wings were fried and marinated in their homemade sambal sauce. For people who might not be able to take spicy food, unlike it’s name, we find that this dish is actually not very spicy, we like the combination of different flavors that made up the sambal sauce.
One of the highlights of this restaurant, TOBY’s Deluxe Burger does not disappoint! Not your ordinary burger, don’t you just agree that cheese makes everything better. It consist of a juicy patty with cheese hidden within, crispy bacon, caramelized onion and lettuce. The oozing cheese just increased our appetite even before eating it. A must try whenever you are here!
Their Garlic Pork Sandwich was another winner! Pulled pork, garlic mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, onion and cheese. Such a beautiful combination, every bite was just so savory that we couldn’t stop.
Usually for pasta we would have to choose between cream-based or tomato-based. For the Bratwurst Sausage Tagliatelle, you will get the best of both worlds. It’s a mixture of both cream and tomato sauce, so you will get the thick creamy consistency along with the sweetness from the tomatoes. A really unique dish in our opinion, the bratwurst sausage goes very well with the pasta too.
Another one of their popular dishes, BBQ Baby Ribs. 5-6 slabs of tender meat with a slightly overpowering BBQ sauce. Choices of sides include potato salad, fries or garlic rice. Still a delicious dish imo, love the sweetness and smokiness of the meat. On top of all the delicious savories that we had, there are many more different types of food to suit all your cravings such as their pizzas, chicken cordon bleu and pot pies. It just that we couldn’t try all of them on a single day, will come back for more next time!
First off, we just had to try their Molten Lava, chocolate lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Chocolate cake with hot fudge that oozes out after slicing it open. Their vanilla ice cream is also very rich and creamy, we are in awe of this hot and cold combination. All cakes served in TOBY’s are baked in house by the lady boss, kudos to her!
TOBY’S The Dessert Asylum serves a wide variety of Mud Pies. A dessert with a combination of different either ice cream with cakes, waffle bits, brownies or really anything under the sun. We tried their Seek Asylum and love how the different layers of flavor fitted together in harmony. It has macadamia ice cream, mocha almond ice cream with cookies and drizzle of Baileys Irish Cream. This is their number one top selling dessert, go for it when you’re there!
How could we miss this aesthetically pleasing cake, we learnt that this is a revamped version as previously it was much denser and they had to heat up the cake before serving. Even though made out of of sponge cake, it does not have your soft light chiffon cake style texture. It is much richer and has a heavier mouth-feel which we absolutely adore. Interestingly, the image of the different layers took over our mind, it felt that each layer had a different taste/texture. Each cake also comes with a scoop of ice-cream of your choice.
